John was from Itawamba county Mississippi, and enlisted on May 3, 1862 in Hazlehurst. He was wounded in battle near Tupelo on June 18, 1862, and was than assigned to teamster detail on Sept. 16, 1862. Pvt. Kennedy was captured at Vicksburg, and was paroled along with the rest of the 38th. sadly John Kennedy died on Sept. 15 1914 in Sardis, in Leon County Texas.
